567: The long green
Sammamish Slough in the background, raindrops darting through the frame. You could estimate the length of the exposure by measuring the length of the drops, if you wanted to.
566: Old lens
Made a pilgrimage to Glazer’s Camera near Seattle Center this morning. I’ve noticed that I usually have autofocus turned off, which raised the possibility of saving loads of money on something elderly and interesting (yes, hoping to get that on a T-shirt someday). I always find myself at the low end of the f-stops, and can’t seem to get excited about anything wide or zoomy. That all made me the perfect date for a well-worn (ok, battered) 85 1.4 ais. Got it home and stood bleakly at the window: this rain will not let up.
Alright then, ball cap for me, lens hood (its own form of industrial art, spun out of aluminum billet) for the 85, tuck the camera into my jacket, and when it rains, make rainy pictures. That big front element hoovers up light.
562: Vine before valley
I walk down this path most days I’m visiting here in Seattle. Even in rainy weather it gets interesting light.

561: Dreaming in red
The Japanese maple outside my friends’ door is an endless lure—not least because I can stand under the eave out of the rain in my slippers to photograph it.
